PK JOINS BASSNECTAR IN ATLANTIC CITY FOR SOLD-OUT SHOW

发布时间:2017-07-17

Bassnectar is an artist that has been prolific in the contribution of music to both the dance music communities across North America and the individuals therein. Since the late 1990s, if you’ve been to a West Coast festival or event, chances are you’ve probably crossed paths with Bassnectar (AKA Lorin Ashton) along the way. Many would credit him as the artist who transformed them – not just in terms of becoming a music fan, but also in terms of being a more conscious and aware human being. Through his music and performances, Bassnectar often intertwines themes pertaining to issues of social justice, activism and the changing political landscape. Bassnectar has always championed not just good music, but the fabric of the community that drives these micro-scenes across North America.

Every once in a while, Bassnectar and his team will throw a large-scale regional event, meant to be a meeting of the minds for the forward thinkers and the music lovers. The artists billing at these events include other taste-making acts (such as Ill Gates, The Widdler, and Eprom), and attract tens of thousands per night to gather under one roof for the love of music and life. This past spring, one such gathering was in Atlantic City, and Bassnectar invited his friends from PK Sound to come along.

PK Sound and Bassnectar are no strangers to each other. Anyone familiar with Shambhala Music Festival will know that Bassnectar has headlined stages there for a solid decade, from 2002 to 2012. It was only a matter of time before things would come full circle and both crews would team up again. In fact, PK Sound's current Senior VP of Touring and Production, Arlen Cormack, has also filled a role with Camp Bassnectar as an Audio Consultant in the last 12 months, assisting the team with designing sound systems for each unique venue Bassnectar performs at.

The Atlantic City event took place April 28 and April 29 this 2017, and was held at the Atlantic City Convention Center drawing 16,000 attendees per night. Like most large convention-type spaces, the room had its challenges acoustically. Luckily Arlen and the rest of the Bassnectar team have dealt with their fair share of these issues throughout the years, and knew exactly how to rise to the challenge.

The cutting edge Trinity robotic line array was deployed to Atlantic City, aiming to enrich blank spaces and sculpt sound accordingly. Bassnectar, who has played on many PK Sound systems in the past, was impressed with the power and transparency of Trinity.

The Trinity system for the Atlantic City event was massive, and consisted of 56 TRINITY modules, 16 VX10 COMPACT LINE ARRAYS and 58 CX800 HIGH POWER DUAL 18" SUBWOOFERS. Arlen took the time to walk us through the set up in Atlantic City:

“The main two line array hangs each consisted of 12 Trinity boxes per hang.  Two lateral extensions, still in line with the stage, each consisted of 10 Trinity boxes per hang. About 180 feet into the house there were two Trinity delay hangs, each consisting of six boxes. The room had massive support pillars that shaded the high frequencies a little bit, so the four main pillars each had four VX10 compact arrays flown. The subwoofer array was deployed in a cardioid arrangement and employed the use of one quarter wavelength spacing.”

The best news of all from this event is this won’t be the last team effort between PK Sound and Bassnectar in 2017. PK Sound will be supplying sound for all of Bassnectar’s hard ticket dates (meaning for all of the Bassnectar shows that are produced and curated by his team and himself.) This is exciting news for both old school and new school fans of PK Sound and Bassnectar.

Hopefully, you’ll see PK Sound and BASSNECTAR soon in a city near you!
