For the 5th year in a row, PK Sound was selected by Sunshine Village Ski Resort to power the Coors Light Spring Concert Series – an event which showcases a solid line-up of talented up-and-comers and distinguished local acts every weekend throughout the spring season.
Perched high in the Canadian Rockies at 7,000 ft, Sunshine Village together with PK Sound took live music to great new heights – literally. Each weekend, thousands of visitors coming to the resort for “Canada’s best snow” were also treated to a truly unique alpine music experience, powered by PK Sound.

The 2017 Coors Light Spring Concert Series saw a number of acclaimed local acts grace the stage, including Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, The Frontiers, The Static Shift, Tim Hus, Elk Run & Riot, Trinity Bradshaw, The Middle Coast, Scenic Route to Alaska, and The WOW! Signal.
The stage was set up in the Coors Light Beer Garden area of Mad Trappers Saloon & Bar, right on the mountain. The sound system included a combination of 6 VX10 compact line arrays (3 per side), with 4 CX800 high powered dual 18" subwoofers (2 per side). This flexible loudspeaker deployment provided the venue with powerful, crystal-clear sound that kept party-goers on their feet throughout the many talented live acts that graced the stage.
“The versatility of the system allows it to be deployed in many conditions, which is important on a ski hill—and it allows the bands to be heard from the Trappers Beer Garden, all the way up to the top of the Standish chair lift,” says Jonny Boreham, Production Manager and Sound Technician for the Coors Light Spring Concert Series.
During Sunshine's biggest annual event, the "Slush Cup Long Weekend," the production team was required to reset the stage placement in order to accommodate and complement the additional activities and events happening in the village area. The sound system was also reconfigured with the VX10 line arrays flown from rigging points, allowing for better coverage and sharper focus of sound for the larger crowds.
“Since the forecast was for blue skies and 15°C each day, we weren't concerned about the possibility of snow building up on the roof of the stage,” says Jonny, “So we utilized the rigging points and flew the line array from the wings of the stage, providing even coverage of the beer gardens and audience area, where we anticipated the bulk of the crowd to be located.”

The Slush Cup drew in a large crowd of approximately 5,000 people at Sunshine Village, and the production team wanted to ensure that all attendees would experience the very best of what was both on and off the stage. To achieve this, they set up a full video package, including two 10’ wide screens with cameras positioned in Trappers Beer Garden. This professional set up made it easier for spectators to clearly see all of the action in the Slush Cup pool—where skiers and snowboarders alike would intentionally try to hydroplane across slushy water, often with chilly results. Regardless of where spectators were standing, they could see action, which was also live streamed on Facebook and Youtube, and later broadcast on television.
“PK Sound plays a vital part in our Spring Concert Series every year, and they help to create a great atmosphere for every event. The environment that we work in here at Sunshine Village Ski Resort is a very rapidly changing one, often on a day-to-day basis, with many weather challenges. PK Sound fully adapts to this with us, and they are able to implement solutions to any challenge that comes their way. We are grateful for their professional advice and suggestions on how we can improve and grow our Concert Series in future,” says Maigan Scott, event coordinator at Sunshine Village ski resort.
