PK VICTORIA – NEWS AND REVIEWS

发布时间:2013-11-05

To say that summer 2013 was anything other than incredibly awesome would be an understatement for PK Victoria. With countless shows and 6 festivals across British Columbia, there was no shortage of excitement to keep the crew busy.

Kicking off the summer, PK Vic marked its 2013 festival debut with Tall Tree Music Festival in Port Renfrew. With the year prior being rainy and dismal, PK arrived with the bass and the sunshine! A beautiful weekend full of music, both electronic DJs and live acts, PK provided the sound at the MainStage as well as the after-hours side stage.

Once Tall Tree was wrapped up, PK Vic made its way out to Sunny Daze Campground in ShawniganLake for Bass Camp. A smaller, more intimate festival, Bass Camp has been growing over the past few years and gaining notoriety in BC. Ruairi described it best as a âsingle little renegade stage in the woods. Bass Camp featured well-known local artists like C Majah from BreakbeatIsland and JFKillah from the SHAHDJs among others.

Moving on to the next festival, PK Vic switched things up for a live music event primarily known for its rock music, Rock of the Woods. Situated on a vineyard in the beautiful Cowichan Valley, it featured many CBC and Juno award nominated artists. With many people at the event having no prior knowledge of PK Sound, it was a great experience to be introduced to a different demographic, mingling with the many parents and young kids that frequented the festival.

With summer 2013 starting to get on, and most of the PK Sound crew already at the Village Stage preparing for Shambhala, a small crew of PK members headed to Merritt to take part in the fifth annual BassCoast festival. For the festival's inaugural year at its new location, PK amped up the event by providing sound to two of the stages: The Bassment and The Radio Stage. Literally bringing the noise, PK's subs kept the metal roofs of the stages vibrating all weekend, something the former Merritt Country Music Festival location hadn't ever had to worry about.

After the thunderous excitement that was Bass Coast, the entire PK Sound crew migrated from across BC and Alberta to the Salmo River Ranch to get to work on prepping their home away from home,The Village Stage. Providing sound for the majority of the stages at Shambhala Music Festival, exceptions being the Labyrinth and Nebula stages, PK Vic was in its element as we worked to excel in the festival PK has become internationally known for. A giant logistical project, the many stages proved challenging at times but, as usual, the crew pulled off another magnificent year of magic at Shambhala.

Wrapping up the festival season for the crew was an event that has become one of Victoria's best known parties,The Rifflandia Festival. With various visual artists presenting through a variety of mediums (annual magazine, Artlandia, War Child Lounge), it was only fitting that PK Vic would be involved. Installations included Rehab Nighclub, Market Square and TempleAfterhours, where the crew worked alongside Optik Visuals and the crew at 9One9 to create some of the most vibrant stages of the weekend.

An amazing effort from the entire crew who hustled all summer long, PK Vic easily settled into its first summer in the city. Looking to top what we've achieved in the first half of 2013, you can bet that we'll be aiming for another colossal summer next year.
